Ginger "Zee" Renee Zuidgeest (born January 13, 1981) is an American television personality. On December 5, 2013, she assumed the position of weather anchor for Good Morning America (GMA) on ABC, following the departure of Sam Champion on December 4, 2013.
Born Ginger Zuidgeest, she was named for "Ginger" from Gilligan's Island by her Dutch father, due to his love of the show that helped him learn English. Ginger graduated from Rockford High School in Rockford, Michigan in 1999. Her goal at graduation was to be a meteorologist on The Today Show by age 30.
After attending Valparaiso University, she worked at WEYI-TV in Flint, Michigan, WYIN-TV in Merrillville, Indiana, WLAV-FM and WOOD-TV both in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and WMAQ in Chicago, Illinois. NBC owned and operated WMAQ, and Zee once filled in as meteorologist on the weekend edition of The Today Show, fulfilling her high school goal.
Zee holds a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology, and is an AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.
Zee debuted as a weekend meteorologist for GMA on November 12, 2011. She held the position of meteorologist at NBC station WMAQ in Chicago from 2006-2011, and was the weather anchor for the weekend edition of GMA from 2011-2013. She occasionally appears on other ABC programming such as Nightline, and has also been a guest with Reed Timmer's TornadoVideos.Net (TVN) team on Discovery's Storm Chasers, Season Four.
In August 2013, Zee became engaged to WNBC-TV New York personality, Ben Aaron, however, she has allegedly had prior relationships with public media/entertainment figures such as the aforementioned Timmer and WSCR Chicago Sportsradio 670 AM and Chicago White Sox pre and postgame radio host Chris Rongey.
On December 2, 2013, ABC News announced that Zee would succeed Sam Champion, who's taking a job with The Weather Channel, as lead Meteorologist for Good Morning America and Weather Editor for ABC News.
