Orphaned non-free media (File:Submit-Express-logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Submit-Express-logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:25, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:87-1265714548Otmq.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:87-1265714548Otmq.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. , and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Misplaced Pages under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. SKATER 21:55, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:THRILL-DJ-main.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:THRILL-DJ-main.jpg, which you've attributed to http://iamthrill.com/pics.html. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Misplaced Pages's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sohambanerjee1998 06:15, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Gracie Barra Montreal

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Gracie Barra Montreal, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

Shawn in Montreal (talk) 16:01, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

  • You may recall that I told you that restoring the article "would virtually certainly be a waste of time for you, me, and all others involved", as it would just be deleted again. You still went ahead and asked for it to be restored, and I restored it. As you may know by now, it has indeed been deleted again. I assure you that, from my experience of countless deletion discussions over the course of the seven years I have been editing, I can say with confidence that there is virtually no chance whatever that any article on this subject will survive a deletion discussion. The subject simply does not satisfy Misplaced Pages's notability standards. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 17:52, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Thank you for your effort. I really appreciate. I am now just trying to draw some lesson for the future. By "this kind of subject", do you mean subject related to Martial art schools in general or this "particular" situation? Thank you.

Gracie Barra Montreal AfD debate

The debate closed but I think you deserved an answer to your question. That was only his opinion - I think if there was an AfD discussion on Bruno he would pass because of the medal record at world championships in BJJ - but that is only my opinion. The person who deleted the article indicated that the original AfD was correct (I agree with that) and that there was not enough change in your new version to warrant a keep. By the way - there is nothing stopping you from expanding Bruno's article with more information on the school which in my opinion is where it belongs.Peter Rehse (talk) 17:45, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

MTK: This is an excellent advice. I will take it from there. I have decided to give a hand to Bruno because I am Martial artist myself (Black belt of Judo) and a scholar who spent a long time in Japan. That's the reason for my insisting in this affair.

Conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, Mamadoutadioukone. We welcome your contributions to Misplaced Pages, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Misplaced Pages, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Misplaced Pages's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Misplaced Pages article or website of your organization in other articles (see Misplaced Pages:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Misplaced Pages's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Misplaced Pages when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:36, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

  • I have to ask: are you a paid editor or someone with a conflict of interest? By that I mean has anyone asked you to create pages for them in return for some sort of compensation or just asked in general to have pages created for them? I would really encourage that you look over our conflict of interest policy. It isn't against the rules for someone to edit with a COI, but it is highly encouraged that you look over our guidelines on reliable sources and notability, and that you follow them more closely than anyone else does. I noticed that many of your sources are not considered to be reliable sources and that some of your text can be seen as promotional, which is what led me to suspect that you could be a paid editor. I think that you mean well but I would highly recommend disclosing this and reading over our general guidelines. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:36, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
  • Hi, Tokyogirl79,

I appreciate your comments that I find legitimate. I did not pay attention to these aspects of the Misplaced Pages page creation rules, specially the sources. I am not affiliated in any way with the subjects I write about. It is very difficult indeed to write about a company without sounding promotional or biased one way or the other. I also noticed this aspect even in featured articles about very well known corporations on Misplaced Pages. Editors like us try to use these articles as examples and try to emulate them sometimes with no much success. In the future, I will keep in mind your particular advice: "it is highly encouraged that you look over our guidelines on reliable sources and notability, and that you follow them more closely than anyone else does". Thank you indeed for your reminder. (。◕‿◕。)

Paid editing

Please wait until you have moved your draft into mainspace before adding entries at the "list of companies" series of articles. Additionally, it is a very, very good idea to identify your conflict of interest and paid editing activities; transparency is appreciated. Kuru (talk) 00:38, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
