Known forRunning for a touchdown for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football at age 7 with brain cancer

Background

On April 22, 2011 Jack was taken to Children's Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, Nebraska due to a number of life-threatening seizures. He was subsequently diagnosed with a brain tumor. While at the hospital, Jack continued to have up to 10 to 12 seizures per day even though he was taking anti-seizure medication. On May 20, 2011 he had surgery, but the neurosurgeon could only remove a small portion of the tumor. Subsequent pathology showed that it was a cancerous glioma. Jack's parents then consulted Boston Children's Hospital for a second opinion. Neurosurgeon Liliana Goumnerova told the Hoffmans that she could remove the golf-ball sized tumor.
