2 Rough consensus Shortcut: WP:ROUGH CONSENSUS Administrators must use their best judgment, attempting to be as impartial as is possible for a fallible human, to determine when rough consensus has been reached. For example, administrators can disregard opinions and comments if they feel that there is strong evidence that they were not made in good faith. Such "bad faith" opinions include those being made by sock puppets, or accounts created solely for voting on the deletion discussion. If a rough consensus holds that the nomination was made in bad faith, the page may be speedily kept.

If the major stakeholders have not been notified of the proposed deletion or given time to respond, reliable consensus determinations will rarely be possible.

Consensus is not determined by counting heads, but by looking at strength of argument, and underlying policy (if any). Arguments that contradict policy, are based on opinion rather than fact, or are logically fallacious, are frequently discounted. For instance, if it the entire page is found to be a copyright violation, a page is always deleted. If an argument for deletion is that the page lacks sources, but an editor adds the missing references, said argument is no longer relevant.

Misplaced Pages policy requires that articles and information comply with core content policies (verifiability, no original research or synthesis, neutral point of view, copyright, and biographies of living persons) as applicable. These policies are not negotiable, and cannot be superseded by any other guidelines or by editors' consensus. A closing admin must determine whether an article violates these content policies. Where it is very unlikely that an article on the topic can exist without breaching policy, policy must be respected above individual opinions.

Per "ignore all rules", a local consensus can suspend a guideline in a particular case where suspension is in the encyclopedia's best interests, but this should be no more common in deletion than in any other area.

EGS-zs8-1 has been nominated for Did You Know

Hello, EGS-zs8-1, an article you either created or significantly contributed to, has been nominated  to appear on Misplaced Pages's Main Page as part of Did you knowDYK comment symbol. You can see the hook and the discussion here. You are welcome to participate! Thank you. APersonBot (talk!) 04:05, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

DYK for EGS-zs8-1

Updated DYK queryOn 19 May 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article EGS-zs8-1, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that EGS-zs8-1 is the oldest and most distant galaxy ever observed? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/EGS-zs8-1. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

References

We at Misplaced Pages love evidence-based medicine. Please cite high-quality reliable sources. We typically use review articles, major textbooks and position statements of national or international organizations. A list of resources to help edit such articles can be found here. The edit box has a build in citation tool to easily format references based on the PMID or ISBN. WP:MEDHOW walks through editing step by step. We also provide style advice about the structure and content of medicine-related encyclopedia articles. The welcome page is another good place to learn about editing the encyclopedia. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 17:57, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Welcome

Welcome to Misplaced Pages and Wikiproject Medicine

Welcome to Misplaced Pages. We have compiled a list of guidance for students and new editors:

  1. Use high quality sources for medical content. This is described at WP:MEDRS. High quality sources include review articles (note this is not the same as peer reviewed), position statements from national and internationally recognized bodies (think CDC, WHO, NICE, FDA, etc), and major medical textbooks. Lower quality sources may be removed.
  2. References go after not before punctuation (see WP:MOS)
  3. We use very few capital letters and very little bolding. Only the first word of a heading is usually capitalized.
  4. Do not use the url from the inside net of your university library. The rest of the world cannot see it.
  5. If you use textbooks we need page numbers.
  6. Please format your references as explained at WP:MEDHOW or like the ones already in the article. This is simple once you get the PMID / ISBN.
  7. Every sentence can be referenced. We reference more densely than other sources.
  8. Never "copy and paste" from sources. We run copy and paste detection software on new edits.
  9. Section order typically follows the instructions here at WP:MEDMOS
  10. Please talk to us. Misplaced Pages works by collaboration and this takes place on the talk pages of both articles and user.

Again welcome and thank you for joining us.

P.S. Please share this with your fellow learners and instructors.

Citation needed tag

Hi there! I noticed that you've added the 'citation needed' tag as . What you really ought to do is use {{citation needed|date=June 2015}} instead. NekoKatsun (talk) 16:56, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Welcome

Thanks for your attention to science articles. As "Doc James" noted above, with regard to medical editing, there are distinct requirements of science editing that are worth noting. In particular, WP articles are not reviews—perusing primary literature, and adding lines to update based on editor interpretation—but are, rather, reports of our editors on the content of others' (scholars') reviews, monographs, and other quality secondary sources. Our aim is to report the preponderance of scholarly opinion on each subject (alongside shorter inclusion of significant minority views), and not in any fashion to try to decide ourselves what that preponderant view is, or should be. I would also note that it is important to be as complete as possible in recording your sources, especially when they are web-only, because when the URL links break (go dead), as is inevitable, the likelihood a future editor can repair the situation depends entirely on how much other information is provided. For more information, please see WP:VERIFY and WP:OR, and skim these policies for relevant content with regard to science editing. Hope this helps you to appreciate these general and specific requirements. Cheers. Le Prof Leprof 7272 (talk) 16:25, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Protocells summary of parent article

Hello again and thank you for updating the Abiogenesis article with new research. A little positive feedback: Please keep in mind that when updating a sub-section that is a summary of another article (indicated in this case by the tag: "'Main article: Protocell") you must make the update to the Protocell parent article first, otherwise the parent article would be outdated, and some protocell summaries elsewhere in Misplaced Pages will have different degrees of info. I used to do the same for a long time until it was pointed out to me in a constructive way, so I pass it along to you too. Thanks, Cheers, BatteryIncluded (talk) 16:53, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Sorry for short communications so far. I have been travelling. I will use the article talk page.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 13:09, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello Andrew, no apologies needed, also please allow me 4-5 days to respond to your questions in the article talk page. (busy in the meantime) The edit summary box only allowed me to only enter short text notes, which can seem curt, so I thought it better to discuss on the talk page and get your views. Thank you, --CuriousMind01 (talk) 23:57, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

No rush at all of course. Misplaced Pages has no deadline. --Andrew Lancaster (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi, I wanted to apologize for reverting you earlier, It's happened on so many occasions where an editor will revert and say "I'll add the sources soon" and then basically buggers off never to be seen again so I usually now revert until the editor provides the sources so it's nothing against you :),
And lastly I wanted to say thank you for actually sourcing the statement as well as your improvements to the article :),
Happy editing, –Davey2010 14:37, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks!

Just thought I would say that even though we aren't agreeing on much right now I appreciate your polite demeanor in the face of disagreement. Springee (talk) 15:19, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello Springee. You are welcome. I always try to be civil. I consider differences of opinion, as natural, and are learning opportunities, and are never a reason to disrepect you or anyone. CuriousMind01 (talk) 13:21, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
You are successful in that regard. I understand you have a string belief in what you are advocating. For what it's worth, I see nothing wrong with asking others to clarify there views etc. Thanks for the collaborative spirit. Springee (talk) 13:39, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
Incidentally, I was thinking about creating a NPOVN discussing asking basically about "reverse notabilty" (common term notable, not wiki NOTE). Would you like to collaborate on the question? Springee (talk) 13:49, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
Hello Springee. Yes. Thank you,CuriousMind01 (talk) 15:04, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! I think we are on generally opposite thoughts on this so I'm hoping we can craft a very neutral question. I'm working on it but honestly it's not at all easy to think of a suscint way to ask or describe the problem. I hope to have a draft question in my sandbox in the next 24 hours. If it's OK with you let's edit it there. I'm thinking about mentioning the F-650 RfC as an example but only if you are OK with it and after the RfC is closed. Thus if we use it the posting will get delayed a bit. Is that all OK with you? Springee (talk) 01:38, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
Hello Springee
1. We may have opposite opinions, but I think the collaborative discussion is good.
2. Yes we can edit/discuss in your sandbox.
3. I don't know if the F650/F-700 rfc is appropriate or not, then me see your draft first.
4. The posting getting delayed is alright, there are no deadlines
5.I created an rfc in the Ruger Mini 14 article on major incidents, after seeing the discussion on the project page, if it is not inappropriate to inform you, I would value your thoughts, and if it does violate any rules for you to comment.
6.I think there may actually be different subjects in NPOV which may be better explained in NPOV. A. Balancing viewpoints to keep viewpoints neutral, keep the weights balanced on the scale. B. The importance of neutral facts to add in an article, separate from balance of balance of viewpoints. Thank you,CuriousMind01 (talk) 13:21, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

CuriousMind01, OK, I have put a draft of the question on my sandbox. It's long (and probably needs to be trimmed). I've tried to avoid offering an opinion one way or the other in the draft. I feel we should try to make it like a RfC. Please edit/offer suggestions. Springee Will do, please allow me a few days. You can always ping me too if you wish.

I did see your Mini-14 question as well as the recent landslide RfC you replied to. In general I'm against adding crime information to gun articles because I do see it as a sort of coatrack. However, in the case of the Mini-14 you found one article that would get me to say "put in a limited mention/link". The American Rifleman article was clearly about the gun, not the crime. It listed the crime as a notable "thing" about the gun. Thus I see a reliable source about the gun (what I called A in my sandbox) mentioning the association with B. Thus in my mind I would say yes, the FBI shooting can stay (doesn't need to but can). That doesn't mean its easy to figured out how to put it into the text and doesn't mean I think the other sections should stay.

Thanks for your thoughts. I don't think of crimes or victim text as coatracking, but as comprehensive encyclopedia text.

I haven't reviewed the landslide article in enough detail to decide one way or the other but I would tend to think the murder shouldn't be included. It sounds like the articles on the murder mention the landslide but few if any articles that are intending to talk about the landslide mention the murder. Thus I don't see that reverse association. I guess in this case and the one above I judge WEIGHT in terms of what others talking about A have said about B vs reliable source about B mentions A.

I tend to vote to include historical facts as comprehensive encyclopedia text.
User:Springee, you are knowledgeable on Misplaced Pages workings. When I started I learned about a giant set of vague policies to deal with. Thank you again,CuriousMind01 (talk) 12:38, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Anyway, take a look and let me know what you think. Springee (talk) 02:40, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Springee, I cannot see your sandbox, can you see mine? I think WP only allows users to see talk pages which seem to be public. Is there a joint private sandbox? You are welcome to paste to my talk page, but it appears open, and the risk is users may read drafts in progress and misinterprept statements and intentions. Any other ideas? Thank you, CuriousMind01 (talk) 14:16, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Go to my user page (not talk page) and add /sandbox to the end. You should also be able to see my edits in my history. Springee (talk) 00:19, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
Springee, that technique worked. I added a test edit at the bottom which worked. Thank you,CuriousMind01 (talk) 13:55, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

I posted a reply in the sandboxSpringee (talk) 03:49, 7 October 2016 (UTC) Springee Alright, I will work on the wording again next week. Thank youCuriousMind01 (talk) 11:46, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, CuriousMind01. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
