Typical subjects include ghost stories, abandoned buildings, unsolved mysteries, and other paranormal phenomena. Past issues have covered the Jersey Devil, Tripod Rock, and UFO sightings. The magazine caused a minor controversy over a story on the which some deemed offensive.
In 2004 the creators of Weird NJ started Weird US, with similar goals on a national scale.
