The enzyme 1,2-α-L-fucosidase (EC 3.2.1.63) catalyzes the following chemical reaction:

methyl-2-α-L-fucopyranosyl-β-D-galactoside + H2O {\displaystyle \rightleftharpoons } L-fucose + methyl β-D-galactoside

It belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those glycosidases that hydrolyse O- and S-glycosyl compounds. The systematic name is 2-α-L-fucopyranosyl-β-D-galactoside fucohydrolase. Other names in common use include almond emulsin fucosidase, and α-(1→2)-L-fucosidase.

Structural studies

As of late 2007, 4 structures have been solved for this class of enzymes, with PDB accession codes 2EAB, 2EAC, 2EAD, and 2EAE.
