Batyr Khan's campaign on the Kalmyks — In 1608, the ruler of the "Kazakh Horde," Batyr Khan, defeated some Oirat uluses: "He ravaged them, conquered their lands, captured their wives and children, and drove them out from their yurts" A. Isin believes this event occurred in January-February 1608. The researcher writes: "Batyr Khan is likely the son of Bolkeiy Sultan, grandson of Syukhan, and a cousin of Yessim Khan. It is possible that alongside the name 'Batyr Khan,' the title of Yessim appears."
However, this refers to Yangi-Batyr Khan (Yangi-Bakhadur), the younger brother of Shigay Khan. According to V.V. Velyaminov-Zernov, the Usek Sultan (Syukhan) clan only gained significant influence in the 18th century. We assume that Yangi-Batyr Khan briefly held the position of ruler of the Kazakh Khanate after Taukekel Khan. Under his rule, the Kazakhs of the Middle and Younger Zhuz were likely under his control, while his nephew Yessim Khan governed the Kazakhs of the Older Zhuz and the Kyrgyz.
Historical sources indicate that Yessim Khan and his brother Abilay Sultan primarily operated in Zhetisu, in the regions of Tashkent and Turkestan. A.I. Isin also mentions that in June 1608, the "rebellious uluses of the Oirat people" were located in a valley near the White Waters (in present-day Pavlodar region). He notes: "It is possible that they were preparing to launch a raid on the Kazakhs."
