Deportivo Toluca F.C. Femenil is a Mexican professional women's Association football club based in Toluca, State of Mexico. The club has been the female section of Deportivo Toluca F.C. since 2017 and currently playing in Liga MX Femenil. Its headquarters are located in the city of Toluca, State of Mexico, playing its home games at the Estadio Nemesio Díez.

History

The team was founded in 2017 prior to the creation of a women's soccer league in Mexico. In 2017 it was one of the 12 clubs participating in the 2017 Liga MX Femenil Cup, where it finished in fourth overall position.

In the 2018 Clausura Tournament (Liga MX Femenil), Toluca reached the semifinal round, where they were eliminated by the Monterrey Femenil Soccer Club. In the 2018 Apertura Tournament (Liga MX Femenil), the team reached the league again, being defeated by Club América Femenil in the quarterfinals.

For the Clausura 2019 tournament, the club finished its participation in seventh place in Group 1 with 15 points without being able to qualify for the playoffs. For the Apertura 2019, a better campaign was made, finishing in sixth place with a total of 31 points, which allowed the diablas to enter the final phase losing in the quarterfinals to Pachuca. The important thing to highlight in this tournament was the dismissal of coach Juan Mendoza, which began since the founding of the women's club in 2017.

For the Apertura 2020 tournament, after the gradual resumption of the tournament following the cancellation of the previous tournament (Clausura 2020) due to the covid-19 pandemic that impacted nationwide, Agustín Contreras was named as the new strategist of the diablas; but he only directed 7 days. Due to this, the club appointed Alberto Cuate as the new coach, who finished the tournament with the Devils in 15th place in the general table in the tournament. For the Clausura 2021 tournament, a historic campaign is achieved, since the Devils finished in 7th place, with which they were able to compete in the playoffs again, ending in the quarterfinals again, this time against Guadalajara.

For the next tournament, irregularity returns, since for the Apertura 2021 tournament they fail to qualify for the final phase, finishing in 12th place in the general table. For the Clausura 2022 tournament, Gabriel Velasco is named as the new strategist of the Mexican club. Finishing in tenth position with 20 points. For the next tournament, the Apertura 2022, Velasco achieves a historic campaign, reaching sixth place with 26 points and reaching the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, they lost to Tigres and the campaign ended for Gabriel Velasco and the devils.

For the next tournament (Clausura 2023) it was not a good one for the devils, since they ended their participation in the tournament early, since they finished in 10th place in the general table with 25 points without being able to repeat the feat of the previous tournament. For the Apertura 2023 tournament, the expectations of the fans were met and they qualified for the playoffs; finishing in sixth place with a total of 30 points. Although unfortunately the feat ended in the quarterfinals, defeated by Guadalajara as in a past tournament.

In the Clausura 2024 tournament, Gabriel Velasco's cycle with the diablas ends, as they were close to qualifying for the playoffs, but due to Velasco's last-minute move, they took a step too far, achieving a total of 27 points, staying at the gates of the "Fiesta Grande".

For the Apertura 2024 tournament, the decision was made to hire Palmeiras coach Ricardo Belli. With expectations already high, Belli managed to qualify the diablas for the playoffs, finishing in 8th place with 26 points, once again being in the quarterfinals. Eliminated by those who would later be champions due to the away goal.

Stadium

Main article: Estadio Nemesio Diez

Deportivo Toluca Femenil plays its home games at the Nemesio Díez Stadium, which it shares with Deportivo Toluca men's team. For less important matches, the women's team plays at the Metepec Facilities, the club's sports complex. The Nemesio Díez Riega Stadium, also popularly known as "La Bombonera", is a football stadium located in the city of Toluca, capital of the State of Mexico in Mexico. It is the usual headquarters of Deportivo Toluca Fútbol Club and Deportivo Toluca Femenil. Its address is Avenida Constituyentes west corner with Felipe Villanueva, #1000 Colonia La Merced, Toluca, State of Mexico. The stadium sits at an altitude of roughly 8,750 feet (2,670 m) above sea level, one of the highest altitude stadiums in North America. The playing field is oriented from east to west, the only professional stadium in the country located in that position.

The stadium was remodelled in 2017, which brought the stadium up to modern standards, expanding the capacity to 30,000 spectators, and adding technology with greater support for screens and ambient sound, all the while preserving the English style that has characterized it, such as the proximity to the playing field.

The stadium has also gained international recognition, as it was chosen as the "Second Best Stadium in the World 2017" in the remodeled category, according to public voting conducted by StadiumDB in the same year.

The remodeling of the stadium was carried out from 2014 to 2017, the design was carried out by Quattro + 1 Arquitectos and the structure was carried out by Lanik. The works include increasing the capacity from 27,000 to 30,000 spectators on six floors, having two basements, special boxes, electronic boards were replaced with screens and ambient sound, fiber optics, cameras, counterfeit ticket detectors, and electronic turnstiles were installed. . , the roof was remodeled to allow the viewer a clear view without obstacles, which consists of a light geometric structure of 10,000 square meters. The current remodeling of the Nemesio Diez stadium cost more than 1 billion pesos. In addition to its field and architectural design, which respected the essence of the historic building, it has received worldwide recognition among the most beautiful stadiums. Likewise, the incorporation of the most advanced technology stands out, which makes it a completely safe and familiar property.

Since its remodeling in 2017, to celebrate the team's centenary, its capacity has increased to 27,273 fans, and it has been considered “the most European stadium in Mexico.”
