"Goodbye, Mrs. Selvig" is the second episode of the second season of the American science fiction psychological thriller television series Severance. The episode was written by Mohamad El Masri and directed by Sam Donovan. It was released on Apple TV+ on January 24, 2025.
It is the first episode of the series to have no scenes on the severed floor, taking place entirely with the severed characters' outie selves.
Plot
Following the events of the previous season finale, Mr. Milchick is tasked with doing damage control and fires both outie Irving and Dylan. Outie Irving lies to him about the events of the night. Helena, accompanied by security chief Mr. Drummond, meets with Ms. Cobel and offers her a promotion to the Severance Advisory Council as a reward for her loyalty but Cobel is insulted by the offer. Helena films an apology video explaining that her outburst was caused by an adverse reaction to alcohol and medicine. Milchick attempts to convince Mark to return to work but Mark decides to quit, much to the dismay of Devon who is convinced that Gemma is alive. Dylan attempts to find a new job but is discriminated against for being severed. While Irving places a cryptic phone call, he is observed by Burt. Helena insists that Mark must return to work to finish the 'Cold Harbor' file and Milchick is able to convince Mark to return to work. After Mark's plea to the board in the previous episode to bring back his team, Milchick re-hires Dylan and Irving. Mark runs into Ms. Cobel while returning home and when he demands answers about Gemma, she drives off.
Development
