Gregory B. Maffei (born May 24, 1960) is an American businessman. He served as the President and CEO of Liberty Media Corporation and the Liberty family of companies from 2005 to 2025. He serves as Executive Chairman of Qurate Retail, Inc., President & CEO of Liberty TripAdvisor, Chairman of Live Nation Entertainment, SiriusXM and Tripadvisor, and as a Director of Charter Communications and Zillow. Prior to joining Liberty in 2005, Maffei served as Co-President of Oracle, Chairman and CEO of 360networks, and CFO of Microsoft. He has also served as a Director of Barnes & Noble, Citrix, DIRECTV, Dorling Kindersley, Electronic Arts and Starbucks and was Chairman of Expedia and Starz.

Early life and education

Maffei was born on May 24, 1960. He attended Groton School, received an AB from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.

Business career

Greg Maffei served as the President and CEO of Liberty Media Corporation and the Liberty family of companies from 2005 to 2025. During Maffei’s nineteen years at Liberty, he oversaw acquisitions and investments in preeminent businesses including the Atlanta Braves, DirecTV, SiriusXM, Live Nation Entertainment, Charter Communications and Formula 1. Over this timeframe, Liberty Media’s composite value increased at a compounded annual growth rate of 17% compared to 11% for the S&P 500, representing an 18x absolute return.

Maffei continues to serve as President and CEO of Liberty TripAdvisor, which holds a controlling interest in Tripadvisor and as Executive Chairman of Qurate Retail, Inc., which owns digital commerce businesses, including subsidiaries QVC, HSN and the Cornerstone Brands. Maffei also serves as Chairman of Live Nation Entertainment, SiriusXM and Tripadvisor, and as a Director of Charter Communications and Zillow.

Prior to joining Liberty in 2005, Maffei served as Co-President of Oracle, Chairman and CEO of 360networks, and CFO of Microsoft. He has also served as a Director of Barnes & Noble, Citrix, DIRECTV, Dorling Kindersley, Electronic Arts and Starbucks and was Chairman of Expedia and Starz.

Maffei is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar, and an AB from Dartmouth College where he formerly served as vice chair of the Board of Trustees.

Personal life

Maffei lives in Colorado with his wife and children.

He donated $250,000 to Donald Trump's inauguration committee.
