Intimations is a 2020 collection of essays by writer Zadie Smith. Smith began writing the book around the time the COVID-19 pandemic began in the United States, and completed it soon after the murder of George Floyd.

The essays discuss topics including creative writing, the pandemic, and the murder of George Floyd.

Reception

Intimations received generally positive reviews. According to Book Marks, the book received "positive" reviews based on twenty-four critic reviews with fourteen being "rave" and seven being "positive" and three being "mixed". In Books in the Media, a site that aggregates critic reviews of books, the book received a (3.69 out of 5) from the site which was based on six critic reviews. On Bookmarks September/October 2020 issue, a magazine that aggregates critic reviews of books, the book received a (4.0 out of 5) based on critic reviews with a critical summary saying, "Despite the essays' unevenness, "Smith has taken a mirror and reflected us back to ourselves during the earliest moments of this crisis," concludes NPR. "It is up to us to change if we don't like what we see".

Constance Grady, writing for Vox, referred to Smith's essays about current events as occasionally "facile" and that the collection was best when addressing the nature and utility of writing.
