Life

He was born on March 1, 1952, in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.

He died on December 24, 2019.

Education

He graduated from the Faculty of Letters of Kyoto University in 1974.

Career

In 1992, he became an associate professor at the Faculty of Letters at Kyoto University, and in 1995, a professor, and later a professor at the Graduate School of Letters at Kyoto University.

Awards and honours

He is a recipient of the Japan Academy Prize (academics).
