Petitella is a genus of freshwater fish in the family Characidae of the order Characiformes.

They are all popular tropical fish in the aquarium hobby. They are commonly known as Rummy-nose tetras.

Taxonomy and systematics

This genus was formerly monotypic, featuring only P. georgiae. The other two species were allocated to Hemigrammus. Before the reallocation in 2020, they were distinguished by the following common names:

  • P. bleheri - Brilliant rummy-nose tetra, or Firehead tetra
  • P. georgiae - False rummy-nose tetra
  • P. rhodostoma - Rummy-nose tetra
