History

Friendship station in 1955

On 14 September 1955, the first section of the railway, almost 500 metres (1,640.4 ft) was opened in Rothehornpark by the Magdeburg Pioneer Railway. A year later, on 6 October 1956, the railway was extended for the first time to 2.2 metres (7 ft 2.6 in). The construction of other buildings within the park, including the fair exhibition hall, and the town hall in Mageburg [de] in 1967 sealed the end of the railroad. A planned expansion to the customs station was not implemented.
