Hadrut (Template:Lang-hy; Template:Lang-az) is a town in the Khojavend Rayon of Azerbaijan. The town has been de facto part of the Republic of Artsakh (formerly the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) since the end of the 1991–94 Nagorno-Karabakh War.
The town is home to the Mika-Hadrut Winery, which produces brandy, vodka, and wine.
History
From 10 September 1939, Hadrut was the capital of the Hadrut District within the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic until the abolition of the Autonomous Oblast on 26 November 1991.
During the Nagorno-Karabakh War, the town was controlled by the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army as of 2 October 1992 and later retained.
On 9 October 2020, and again on 11 October during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijani forces had taken control of the town. This was denied by the President of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan that said that the Artsakh Defence Army was in full control of Hadrut. On 10 October, the Foreign Ministry of Artsakh said that since the beginning of the ceasefire, hostilities had ceased with the exception of Hadrut, where an operation to neutralize an Azerbaijani "sabotage and reconnaissance group" was underway. According to Russian war journalist Semyon Pegov, the city was not under Azerbaijani control on 11 October. Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence released a video supposedly shot in Hadrut on 13 October, but according to the BBC, it includes footage from neighboring heights and Tagaser village, not from the center of Hadrut. Later, on 16 October, BBC (Russian) revealed that Azerbaijan controlled Hadrut completely, although the media outlet noted that there was no information on when the video had been recorded.
Also on 16 October, Azerbaijan released new video purportedly proving its control of Hadrut.
